John Metza is a W8banaki (Wabanaki) singer-songwriter born and raised in Saint-Eustache, Quebec. His music draws from folk, country and Americana, with western influences.
He spent years in construction while music stayed in the background. At 35, he changed course and made music his priority.
He began writing songs in 2022. A Nikamo Musik grant brought him into the studio in 2024, followed by his first single, “Sorry,” in 2025. On August 5, 2026, Nikamo Productions released his ten-song debut album, Somewhere in the North Country. He presented it live at Montreal’s Place des Festivals during the International First Peoples’ Festival.
With a deep voice and direct, image-rich writing, Metza explores solitude, mistakes, love, regret, time and the courage to choose a different path. Organic arrangements give the music room to breathe, keeping the story at the heart of each song he writes and performs.
